Surviving the 2008 Tsunami and Thriving in 2009

We survived!! The wonderful year 2008 is 'history' and 'herstory' too. What a year of powerful energy, and life challenges. I think, spiritually speaking, we survived an energetic and spiritual Tsunami!

I prefer smaller, gentler waves that give you a chance to look around and enjoy the scenery. We don't get to choose the conditions of the surf. So, all of our training in small surf, big surf, no surf, hopefully helped us survive the "big one".

If we are still standing, sitting, smiling, and seeking, WE survived. Personally I am not sure my training prepared me to the waning 2008. I observed myself caught up in the undercurrent of my own human emotions. I felt, many times this year that I was drowning. It took all of my energetic bodies and allys and my relationship with eternity to push me up for the next breath.

Now I truly understand what the sages and ancient writings have been saying. The human condition cannot escape the pain, the suffering, the dukka (first noble truth).

Somewhere in my polyanic warface I believed that I was different. I have, afterall, lived through 5 decades of human life requirements. Physical and mental pain, often connected with suffering and death of loved ones, were certainly not foreign to me. But, until the "big wave" of 2008 I was almost immuned to the pain of the human life.

Was I prepared? I guess. I am still here. Still Here! (Good name for a book!--and a very good book written by Ram Dass).

Welcome, 2009!! Change is a constant. I believe that the year 2008 was the year that peeled layers layers of the very stinky, slippery onion of collective ego. We are closer to the pearl inside the lotus. We, the survivers, will enjoy the new ocean view, and the waves that ebb and flow in and around us will be surfed with grace.
